Welcome to the off-grid cabin
Just a Few Reminders:
This is an off-grid cabin, with no running water or sewer. Electricity is provided by batteries, so refrain from using high-power appliances such as hair dryers, heaters, hot plates, TVs or anything that consumes lots of power as we have limited power capacity.
Kitchen
The small kitchen has an off-grid water system that operates with a foot pump faucet and a small enamel sink for basic use which provides 5 gallons of unheated water.
It has a single burner camping stove for basic cooking. We provide drinking water, a small cooler, but we do not provide ice. The cooler is small, bring a cooler if you need more space for storage food. The kitchen is stocked with essentials for your cooking needs, including olive oil, sugar, salt, pots, pans, cups, plates, silverware, etc.
King Size Bed
The cabin features a twin extendable bed that converts into a king-size bed. The linens currently on the bed are set up for a king-size arrangement. Under the bed, you'll find two storage boxes. One contains extra blankets and the other storage box is available for storing your personal items. (pull out these 2 boxes before extending the bed)
At night, simply extend the bed frame and place the twin mattress onto the frame (with the brown side facing down). Once the mattresses are side by side, spread out the linens to cover the full king-size setup.
Outdoor Shower
We offer an outdoor shower that can be very refreshing on hot days. It has a propane water heater in case you prefer a warm shower. We provide towels.
Please follow these steps when using the outdoor shower.:
The shower head has a button to open or close the water flow.
The propane water heater has 2 knobs to control the temperature of the water
The shower has curtains that can be attached to the columns for privacy.
Compost Toilet
Compost toilets typically feature separate compartments for urine and solid waste.
If urinating, please sit on the toilet seat. For solid waste, cover it with a layer of sawdust from the box next to the toilet. You can also dispose of used toilet paper in this compartment.
Setting the Stove
Please let us know if you need assistance with this. We provide the wood for the stove inside the cabin, which is used when weather requires it.
Fire Pit
If you are planning to use the fire pit, please bring wood.
Kayaks
To use the kayaks, you must first sign a waiver. Please let me know if you're planning to head down to the lake, and I will provide the necessary forms. The planks to get to the barge were damaged during the winter. We are building a new dock, so please be cautious to get to the barge ( walk in the middle of the planks to get to the barge ).
Batteries
There are two batteries on the shelf above the bed, covered by baskets. One battery is in use, and the second is a backup. If the battery in use runs out, please lift the baskets and connect the second battery. Let us know if you have any questions and inform us when the battery runs out so we can charge it in case you need it again.
Important: If you plan on going out or leaving the cabin, be sure to turn off the lights and the fan. We have noticed that leaving the fan on causes the battery to run out faster.
Garbage
It's important not to leave food or garbage outside the cabin, as we have observed a lot of wildlife on the property (bears, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, etc).
There are two metal trash bins outside the cabin. One has a bag for general trash, and the other is for recycling cans and glass.
